As well as capturing the special bond between animals and humans EM maintains a commitment to spread animal welfare and knowledge. Andrea Cook, creator of Éléphant Mauve has been working with animal welfare organizations across Canada for 15 years and has 10 years experience in the photography industry. Reaching out to the community is an important goal for Andrea, and a part of Elephant Mauve's operations. Through her work she strives to enhance awareness and educate people on animal welfare and their relationships with humans. Volunteering her time and efforts to shelter organizations and advocacy groups is a critical component of her business. Taking photos of rescued animals for shelters and publishing articles on animal related matters are examples of how Andrea carries out this outreach.
Andrea is an editorial, commercial, and portrait photographer born in Vancouver, BC. She lives in Montreal and works throughout Quebec on contracts and personal projects in many different medias. Her interest in photography was sparked at the age of sixteen and flourished throughout high school and university. In 2006 she took her fascination with the hobby to a new level and began working as a professional photographer. She takes great satisfaction from capturing lasting memories in photographs. Inspired by creative outlets like film, sculpture, painting and journalism have helped Andrea develop her own artistic style. This style is what she brings to each photo that she takes. Her favourite subjects for her photos are pets, wild animals and people; subjects that show the truth of situations, like poverty in big cities; and cataloging plants and animals. EM keeps a blog to keep people up to date on all the animal happenings that Andrea and her team encounter. She also keeps an artist's blog to reflect her personal photo works and fine-arts projects (click on the link to visit Andrea's website: www.andreacook.ca).
Her varied experience has allowed her to make each photo a piece of art. EM strives to capture emotion through artistic elements like colour, composition, props and the 'moment'. The ultimate essence of her photos is an experience of feeling and truth. There is always something new at www.elephantmauve.com such as: stories and articles about animals that will warm animal loving hearts and educate, how to do at home art and photo projects and special offers and events. You will come across photos and stories that not only delight and make you laugh, but stories on true realities behind animal life in our world.
