Loads of Concordia students rolled in looking a little sleepy after all night studying and Earth Day celebrations for a little stress relief this Monday April 23, 2012. They got to visit un-judging, tounge wagging doggie therapsits for the afternoon and no student in the world could stay stressed with these adorable pups to distract them! Check out the shots below for a snapshot of the day! These are all part of the documentary photos for The Canine Connection Project. Add Comment This Sunday, April 22, 2012 I met up with Whiskey, Brandy and Harriet at the Mcgill residence for a little final exam stress relief. April is the end of the year and everyone is studying like crazy! Students said that they get so wrapped in the constant buzz of studying and stress during exam time. Kelly, Mcgill residence coordinator set-up a visit with Therapeutic Paws of Canada to relieve a bit of this stress. She says that it is great to interact with the dogs and get a chance to relax, even if only for a few minutes. I was on hand to take images of the instant connection created between the students and dogs. This photo shoot is one part of the Canine Connection project that will show later in 2012. Keep posted on the project to see more of Whiskey and Brandy connecting with people! Canine Connection Éléphant Mauve understands that your pet is an important part of your life for several years. Make the most of this by following each stage of their time with you. As in humans, puppyhood is very different from the teenage years, adulthood and the senior years. I often get client's who wish to remeber their pets in the last year of their life, and I often hear "I wish I had done a photo shoot earlier." Often we don't realize how much of an impact a dog, cat, bird or even lizard has had on us until the threat of loosing him or her is near. Instead of remembering only the end Éléphant Mauve has created a way to celebrate the past, present and future at the same time. "THE LIFE OF ...." PROJECT Getting a "The Life of..." montage will provide you with a lasting memory that you can enjoy now and forever. Our first model for "The Life of..." project is Superstar, Percy. Éléphant Mauve is introducing several special young pet super stars in 2012. Watch them as they grow and change in the next few years. Each one with his/her own very unique story, family, look and quirks. Our first superstar is Percy, a 5.5month old Golden Doodle belonging to Ani and John. Percy loves to play in the snow, but hates the rain with a passion. He is soon to attend puppy training, and for now we did the winter action photo shoot in a fenced school yard since he just won't stay put without a leash. I remember my dog's puppy years and he just pulled on the leash and took off when unleashed. Click here to see our SuperStars page. See more about Percy at Éléphant Mauve's SuperStars Page Ran across this today while looking up pizza recipes! Too Cute... http://www.cookdays.com/cakes/hello-kitty-mini-pizzas/ Chris Dodds, wildlife photographer hosted the Second Annual Photo Geek Christmas Party at the Hudson Village Theater yesterday for the benefit of le Nichoir wild bird rehabilitation centre. And what an evening! The crowd was genuinely moved and appreciation for the images was incredible to see! The Montreal Camera Club members were there in droves along with many of the supporters of le Nichoir. It is always great to see familiar faces and such interest in wildlife preservation. (Éléphant Mauve is involved with both organizations) Chris is a very conscientious and respectful photographer who imports the need for patience and not to interrupt the natural environment or lifestyles of the animals that he shoots. He laments the loss of understanding among modern wildlife photographers and claims simple education on animal respect is called for (a point to which I greatly agree.) He really knows his animal behaviour and names, as well as showing eye-poppingly breathtaking images. Thank You Chris, le Nichoir and the camera club for all the great support! To read more about the funds raised and Chris's take on the event please visit his blog at http://naturephotographyblog.squarespace.com/journal/2011/12/1/wow-thank-you.html (Français) Last night, Verdun City Hall was a buzz with people who love and make a different in the community of Verdun. Tip of the Hat recognizes outstanding entrepreneurial, artistic and volunteer achievements by individuals and teams alike. I am very pleased to have won a "tip of the hat" recognition in the "self-employed" category for winning first place in the Concours Quebecois d'Entrepreneuriat du Quebec du sud ouest, "Services aux Individus". This honour also comes with a gift of an original painting by Rene-Jaques Ratthé entitled "La femme au chat" and fittingly is an Ilês des Soeurs scene with a woman and her cat in her arms. This is an excellent closing to the first official year of Éléphant Mauve and I, Andrea Cook would not be here without the support of many others. I wish to thank the CLD de Verdun, SAJE Montreal and the city of Verdun for being an enormous source of support (artists can use as many business skills and resources as possible!) Thank you to my family in Vancouver, Kelly Cook, Rand Mackenzie, Garth Mackenzie who helped me kick off Éléphant Mauve in 2010 at the Salon National des Animaux de Compagnie. Also, a special thank you goes to Eric, Stephanie, Kaylie, Bennett, Jax and O'Neill Disandolo, Daniella, Greg, Zepolli, and Biscotti Disandolo and Kelly, Jay, Ariel and the late, Binx Cook for allowing me to come into your homes for test sessions! Thank you to Pam and Mike Disandolo who come to every animal event that Éléphant Mauve is involved in. A huge thank you also goes to Nina Nesciorek, a wonderfully dedicated assistant, and to all my enthusiastic clients this year. Last, but not least the people behind the scenes who make all this possible... THANK YOU to my family: Tom Disandolo, Maddy, Mojo and Winkee. You inspire and support, and what more could an entrepreneur ask for?! The second year is already picking up and I look forward to continuing to provide high quality, animal-related photographs for families and businesses, expanding the team, celebrating the grand opening and welcoming clients to the new office! Andrea Cook, Owner Éléphant Mauve (Français) Many of you who like Éléphant Mauve, have seen the portfolio, galleries or had the chance to speak with me know that Winkee is a huge inspiration to all the creative work done here. She is missing one eye that she had lost before we adopted her. My partner, Tom and I went through her operation and supported her through the healing process. In the end though she was more of a support to us! One small cat taught me a big lesson about that it is possible to overcome anything and nothing is as bad as it seems; just enjoy life, and play! I apply this lesson to Éléphant Mauve every day, and keep this montage in my portfolio and easy to see (image below.) Well, just this week her other eye has been behaving unusual, so she is off to the vet today. I wish her much courage, and hope that we catch any problems before she has to loose her other eye. I went a little more literal on the "dog days of summer" themed photo shoot and combined it with a fitting bohemian look to highlight some great accessories, for both dogs and people! Here are some images from the August.15, 2011's collaborative photo shoot. Check out the great looks, adorable dogs, charming poses and beautiful backgrounds. To get the complete story, and photos click on: Dog Days of Summer This was waiting on the back door of the office today! I found out later that it is a June bug! It's pretty darn big. Check it out. Cette monstre m'attendait sur la porte arrière du bureau aujourd'hui! J'ai découvert plus tard que c'est un "June Bug!" C'est sacrément gros. Regardez. Andrea Cook This Saturday, July 16, 2011 Le Nichoir, the only wild bird rehabilitation centre in Canada had an open house. The public was invited to visit the shelters containing both adult and baby birds such as gulls, blue jays, crows, even a wild white goose and many more. Andrea Cook from Éléphant Mauve was there to offer tips on how to photograph birds in the wild, whatever type of camera you have and Tom Disandolo took photos of the day's events and activities. Thank you to everyone who came to see the demonstration and find out more about Éléphant Mauve. We were also face painting that hot summer afteroon, blue jays and cardinals were among the most requested things, but we even painted a Pink Flamingo!
